Literacy

All students participate in a wide range of Literacy activities throughout the school week to develop and refine their reading, writing and speaking and listening skills.

Accelerated Reader:

Each student is guided to select a reading book that is suitable for their reading and chronological age. Once a student has finished their book, they complete an online quiz to measure their understanding and progress. Students are encouraged to read a variety of materials and for their own pleasure.

Here are some of the comments students have made about reading:

  • "I like to bring my own books into school.  It is calming and fun."
  • "I find the reading lessons relaxing and I learn more through reading."
  • "Reading is enjoyable.  It helps me to discover new content."

Lexia

Some students are enrolled on Lexia Core 5 to assist with their independent literacy skills. For more information on this programme please visit https://www.lexialearning.com/products/core5

Study Ladder:

All students have unlimited access to Study Ladder. This is an online platform to improve Literacy skills through quizzes and games. The tasks set are personalised for each individual student to ensure they are targeting relevant skills. This can be accessed at home through a computer or mobile device.  Each student has their own personal login which records their progress.

Halton Libraries:

All of our students are encouraged to to become a member of Halton Libraries and we work closely with library staff to provide students with a number of exciting opportunities including author visits and sponsored reads.  Please see the school literacy board for upcoming events.

For current news and activities please check the school's Literacy Notice Board.
